How it works:

Cards:

  • Print, cut and ideally laminate the cards
  • Many ways to use, for example:
    • As-tu déjà game – Put students into groups of 3-5. Each student starts the game holding up 5 fingers. Project the first question. Students go around the circle and say whether they have done the action, or not. You can encourage them to use the structures “Ouij’ai déjà…” and “Non, je n’ai jamais…” if you wish. If they have done the action, they put down one finger. Repeat this until one person in the group has no fingers left – they win!
    • Rencontre rapide – Group students into two lines facing one another (or inner and outer circles) and give each student a question card. Students ask and answer one another’s questions and then once everyone is done, one of the lines shift down a person so everyone is faced with someone new. Repeat over and over again so students get to answer lots of new questions.
    • Speaking warm-up – As students enter your classroom, give each one a question. When they sit down, they ask and answer questions with a partner.
    • Fast finishers – Those who finish their work early can take a few cards and answer the questions in writing.
    • Stations – Create a few stations around the room, each with a few question cards on the table. Have students move around in small groups to each of the stations and discuss the questions.
    • Mingling – Give each student a card and have them go up to someone else in the room to ask and answer one another’s questions. After they have finished, they swap cards and find someone else.
    • Walk and talk – Use the large version of the questions and post them around the room or on the board. Students walk around in pairs asking and answering the questions. If they have done the action, they write their name underneath.

Slides:

  • Share slides in both an online or in-person class
    • Question du jour – Using the slides, each morning project one of the questions on the board. Ask individual students to answer the question in front of the class, or have students turn to the person next to them to discuss the question.
    • Exit cards – Project one of the questions on the board and have students write a written answer to the question and turn it in to you before leaving.
    • Breakout room conversations – Share one of the questions with students and then send them to a breakout room in small groups to discuss it.

Format: PDF + PPT slides
